One of our most popular floral gifts of the holiday season is poinsettias!
There are hundreds of types of poinsettias and they are also known as the Christmas Star and Christmas Flower, it's said that poinsettias’ association with Christmas comes from a Mexican legend. The story goes that a child, with no means for a grander gift, gathered humble weeds from the side of the road to place at the church alter on Christmas Eve. As the congregation witnessed a Christmas miracle, the weeds turned into brilliant red and green flowers.
After Christmas, you can keep these beauties going strong by taking good care of them with these tips:
- Find them a sunny spot, preferably near a windowsill or bright area of your home
- Don’t let your room get too cold – they like rooms between 65-75 degres
- Water them regularly but be sure to drain extra water out of the planters or saucers so they aren’t sitting in too much water
Most poinsettias last between 4-6 weeks when cared for properly!
